Start Date: July 1, 2024


Duration:The Diploma in Public Health Management in Crisis Settings is a nine-month program, divided into three semesters, consisting of three months coursework for the first and second semester plus a three-month individual capstone project. Coursework will require direct contact hours (estimated 36 hours) per course. Students facing unforeseen circumstances who cannot complete the full diploma will be offered certificates of completion for the relevant modules they have completed. The final capstone project may only be taken by students completing the full diploma. When undertaking the capstone, students will be assigned an advisor and receive mentoring. During the capstone, it is expected that students will commit to two contact hours per week of mentorship, and at least eight hours for conducting their capstone. If feasible, the mentor will help the student’s paper get published. The publication is not compulsory.


Tuition Fees: 600,000 MMK


Scholarship Opportunities: There will be scholarships and partial scholarships awarded by the university and the school of health. Scholarships will be awarded based on the financial needs and impressive academic background of the candidates. Scholarship awardees need to maintain at least a 3.0 GPA per semester.


Program Objectives: Understand the principles of public health leadership and management in crisis settings and their application in different local contexts.

  1. Identify and assess the key health risks and vulnerabilities in crisis settings, including natural disasters, conflicts, pandemics, and humanitarian emergencies.

  2. Develop effective strategies for disease surveillance, outbreak response, maternal and child nutrition and epidemiological investigation in crisis settings.

  3. Acquire skills in emergency preparedness and response planning, including coordination, resource management, and logistics as well as negotiation and mediation.

  4. Learn about the ethical considerations and human rights frameworks in public health management during crises.

  5. Understand the importance of community engagement and participation in crisis response and recovery efforts.

  6. Develop skills in effective communication, leadership, and decision-making in high-pressure situations.

  7. Gain knowledge of international frameworks and guidelines for public health management in crisis settings.


Admission Requirements:


Educational Background: Ideal applicants should have completed or be nearing completion of a relevant undergraduate degree (i.e. medicine, nursing, pharmacy, etc.). Students with recognized high school level certificates or documentation must have at least two years of relevant professional experience in public health settings. Applicants with advanced professional experiences are strongly encouraged to apply.

Academic Interest and Motivation: Applicants should have strong academic interest and motivation in public health and other health-related issues.

Language Proficiency: The course will be mostly taught in Burmese but a minimum of intermediate English language proficiency is required.
