Fundamental concepts of computer applications and the basics of HTML and CSS, then an introduction to programming in Python or C++: object-oriented principles including classes, objects, inheritance, polymorphism and encapsulation, reinforced by hands-on exercises and projects.
- CS-1002Computer Architectures, Hardware and Security3 credits
Basic principles of computer organisation and operating systems: CPU architecture, memory management, input/output, peripheral devices, network topologies and protocols, and an introduction to cybersecurity covering threat analysis, security protocols and encryption.

Software engineering principles across the development lifecycle from requirements to maintenance, covering Waterfall, Agile and DevOps, and the integration of hardware, software, data and people within information systems to support organisational decision-making.

Creating, designing and maintaining web pages with HTML elements, CSS styling and layout, and JavaScript for interactivity, building dynamic, responsive and user-friendly sites.
