Semester 13 courses · 8 credits
- PF 3001Fundamental Concepts of Federalism3 credits
Conceptual understanding and theoretical perspectives of federalism: basic concepts and types of federal models, forms of government, federal constitutions and federal units, with detailed case studies compared with other federal states around the world.
- PF 3003Concepts and Practices of Peacebuilding3 credits
Theories of peacebuilding, the cycle of revenge and reconciliation, and negotiation techniques. Covers both top-down and bottom-up peacebuilding strategies, supported by special seminars, guest lectures and case studies connected to the Myanmar peace process.
- Academic Writing2 credits
The conventions of academic writing needed for the programme's assignments, policy brief and capstone: structure, argument, referencing and clear expression.
Semester 23 courses · 12 credits
- PF 3002Decentralization and Power-sharing3 credits
Models of decentralisation and the conceptual framework of power sharing, studied against the situation in Myanmar. A power-sharing simulation, special seminars and case studies are compulsory learning activities.
- PF 3004Qualitative Research Methodology3 credits
Basic research skills, sampling and field data collection, research ethics, conflict sensitivity and report writing. Students write a short policy brief and execute a group research project related to the modules.
- PF 3005Capstone Research Project6 credits
A six-credit capstone under the supervision of researchers in peace studies and political science, exploring the relationship between federalism and peacebuilding through comparative case studies and producing a comprehensive academic paper.
