- PP 301Public Policy I3 credits
An overview of policy making: the critical concepts and theories of public policy and the stages of policy development, including problem identification, agenda setting and adoption.
- PP 201Quantitative Research Method3 credits
In three parts: graph representation and reporting with Excel; estimators, statistical indicators and their limitations; and statistical inference including correlation and linear regression.
- PP 101Academic and Effective Writing1 credit
The language and writing skills needed for academic success: writing clearly, reading and analysing academic texts, and communicating ideas in different contexts, with the basics of grammar, vocabulary and academic conventions.
- PP 102Introduction to Social Scientific Research1 credit
The principles and methods of social scientific research: designing studies, collecting and analysing data, and interpreting and reporting findings using surveys, experiments and secondary data.

Methods and techniques for analysing policies and evaluating their effectiveness, the challenges of implementation and strategies for overcoming them, and the role of stakeholders in the policy process.
- PP 202Politics and Governance3 credits
The fundamentals of politics and governance: the history, theories and practices of different forms of governance, power and authority, the relationship between government and society, and a political approach to implementing public policy.
- PP 203Public Finance and Budgeting1 credit
The principles and practices of public finance: the role of government in collecting and allocating resources, the budget process, the impact of fiscal policy on the economy, and current challenges in the field.
- PP 204Economics Foundation for Public Policy1 credit
The economic concepts and theories that underpin public policy decisions: the principles of microeconomics and macroeconomics, the role of government in the economy, and local, national and international economic issues.
- PP 401Research Project4 credits
An individual policy research paper that applies the skills and knowledge gained throughout the programme, developed and presented with a quantitative research method.
